One Year Journey of JPSIM

Only a year back we launched The Journal of Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine (JPSIM). It was indeed a challenging task. With the vision of our Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Javed Akram and the hard work of Managing Editor, Dr. Rizwan Iqbal the dream of having a successful journal became a reality. It was latter’s dedication and pursuance that led to a successful one year. We have published 4 issues so far, all well in time and all of the highest quality. All issues feature original articles, review articles, medical guidelines, and editorials among other sections. The most popular and well-read segment of the journal has been ‘Reflection’, where patients, students, and doctors, all have contributed their true heart moving stories. Another segment that has attracted readership is ‘Telemedicine’. Because this is the present and this is the future of medicine. In all the issues, we have included Medical Guidelines, usually excerpts reproduced from published guidelines on major topics. The idea was to give our readers a simple to understand and simple to follow document, also keeping the ground realities in mind. We also include Medical News both national and international, to appraise our readers about what is happening in the field of medicine. In the section of PSIM Corner we include the activities of Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine, because almost always there is something happening within PSIM.
Our international and national advisory boards have provided constant guidance to improve the quality of the journal. We have developed an elegant website of the journal psimj.com. All issues are uploaded before the readers actually get hold of the hard copies. The articles can be read online, and a pdf copy can be downloaded for offline reading or for distribution. We have circulation of 1000 copies and they are distributed to all leading medical institutions of the country and all members of Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine (PSIM) with the compliments of the editorial board.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the authors, both local and international, for their confidence in our journal and their valuable contribution in the form of articles. I know it is still a long way to go before Journal of Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine will be cited locally and internationally. But I also know that a thousand miles journey also starts with the first step. That first step is extremely crucial if it is in the right direction. I am glad to say that we have taken that first step. With continuous patronage of our peers, I am hopeful that journal will grow and will gain the respect and credibility.
At the end, I am grateful to my editorial board, because it wouldn’t have been possible without their support. I am excited, as we are getting closer to meet the minimum requirements needed for journal’s recognition by the authorities. I urge our contributors to continue the support to help us achieve that milestone. I pledge, on behalf of entire editorial board, to do whatever possible within our means, to make The Journal of Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine one of the most trusted and respected journal.
