Submit a Manuscript

JPSIM publishes original material of interest to researchers, scientists and practitioners in medicine, biomedical sciences and health research: original articles, review articles, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, short reports, case reports, editorials, letters to the editor and reflections. This page is a quick guide to preparing and submitting your manuscript. The full instructions, including format requirements, ethics, statistics and reference style, are in the Author Guidelines, and they take precedence if anything here is unclear.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting, check that your manuscript meets every requirement below. Submissions that are incomplete or do not meet the ethical, similarity or reporting requirements may be returned or rejected without external review.

1. Originality — The manuscript, including illustrations and tables, is original and is not under consideration by any other publication. If any part of the work has been published before, this is acknowledged and written permission to reuse it is included.
2. Submission type and limits — You have chosen one submission type from the table below, stated it in your cover letter, and kept within its word, table, figure and reference limits.
3. Language and file format — The manuscript is written in English and uploaded as a Word file (.doc or .docx), double-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman or Arial, with pages numbered consecutively. The order is: abstract, introduction, methodology, results, discussion, acknowledgements, references, then tables and figures with their legends. Tables and figures may follow the references or be uploaded as separate files.
4. Blinded manuscript and separate title page — Peer review is double-blind, so the manuscript file contains no author names, affiliations or acknowledgements, and self-identifying citations are minimised. The title page is a separate file with: a concise title of fewer than 200 characters (for a case report, the title includes the words “case report” or “a case report”); the full name of every author with an ORCID iD where available; each author’s complete affiliation (department, institution, city, country); a disclaimer, if any; and the name, address, telephone number and email address of the one author responsible for correspondence.
5. Abstract and keywords — Original articles carry a structured abstract of not more than 250 words, labelled Background & Objectives, Methodology, Results and Conclusion. Review articles, systematic reviews and meta-analyses carry an unstructured abstract of 150–200 words that states the methods used. Case reports and short reports may carry an unstructured abstract of up to 150 words. Editorials, letters and reflections need no abstract. Give 3 to 6 keywords that follow Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), listed separately from the abstract.
6. References — Vancouver style — References are numbered in order of first mention, with superscript numbers in the text. List all authors when there are six or fewer; for more than six, list the first six followed by “et al.” Use standard abbreviated journal names and add the DOI for online articles. Do not cite unpublished observations or personal communications, and cite “in press” only for work that has been accepted.
7. Authorship — All authors meet the four ICMJE authorship criteria. Each author’s contribution is stated during the online submission, using the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) roles for original research and review articles. The Letter of Authorship is signed by all co-authors.
8. Ethics and consent — Research on human subjects states that the procedures followed the ethical standards of the responsible committee and the Declaration of Helsinki, names the committee and approval number, and states whether informed consent was obtained. Animal studies state the institutional or national guide followed (ARRIVE reporting is encouraged). Patients’ names, initials and hospital numbers are never used. The EC/IRB approval letter is uploaded with every research submission.
9. Reporting guidelines — CONSORT for randomised trials, STROBE for observational studies, PRISMA for systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and CARE for case reports. JPSIM prefers systematic reviews and meta-analyses to formal narrative reviews.
10. Plagiarism screening — Every submission is screened with Turnitin. The screening threshold is an overall similarity of no more than 19%. Check your manuscript before you submit and cite and quote sources properly.
11. Conflict of interest and funding — All financial and other relationships that could be construed as a conflict of interest, and all sources of financial support, are disclosed, or “None declared” is stated for each.
12. Use of AI tools — Any use of artificial-intelligence tools in preparing the manuscript is declared, and a record of the prompts used is kept, as described in the Ethical Compliance policy.
13. Cover letter — A covering letter from the author responsible for correspondence states the submission type, confirms originality and discloses any overlap with related manuscripts.
14. Fee payment — The submission and processing fee has been paid and the receipt is ready to upload (see Fees).

Submission Types & Limits

These are the same limits as in the Consolidated Instructions to Authors on the Author Guidelines page. Word counts exclude the title page and, where one is required, the abstract.

• Editorials are usually commissioned. Unsolicited editorials of up to 1,000 words are welcome. Commissioned editorials are reviewed within the editorial board; unsolicited editorials are externally reviewed.
• Short reports combine a short introduction, patients, methods and results, followed by the discussion.
• Case reports have a short introduction, the case report and a discussion. They follow the CARE reporting guideline, and the title includes the words “case report”. Written informed consent for publication is required from the patient (or a parent, guardian or next of kin where the patient cannot consent), is stated in the manuscript and is published on the article page.
• Letters to the Editor have no more than three authors. A letter about a recent journal article must be received within four weeks of its publication.
• Reflections are based on true stories of patients or medical professionals.

Files to Upload

You will be asked for these files during the online submission. No article is processed without the Letter of Authorship, and no research paper can be published without the EC/IRB approval letter.

1. Blinded manuscript — Word file (.doc or .docx) with no author names, affiliations or acknowledgements.
2. Title page — a separate file with the title, authors, ORCID iDs, affiliations and corresponding-author details.
3. Cover letter — stating the submission type.
4. Letter of Authorship — the journal’s authorship declaration form, signed by all authors, scanned or photographed.
5. EC/IRB approval letter — required with each research submission.
6. Payment receipt — a screenshot or photo of the bank transfer, with the transaction ID and date.
7. Figures — high-quality digital image files, numbered and cited in order. Hand-drawn art, prints and original artwork are not accepted. Permission from the publisher is needed for any previously published illustration or table.
8. Supplementary files (optional) — PDF, Excel or image files.

How to Submit

All submissions are made online through this website. Nothing is submitted on paper.

1. Register / Login — Create an author account or log in using the buttons at the top of this page.
2. Article Details — Enter the title, abstract, keywords, article type and section.
3. Authors — Add all co-authors with their affiliations, ORCID iDs and CRediT contributions.
4. Upload Files — Upload the files listed above, including the payment receipt, with the transaction ID and date.
5. Metadata — Provide the ethics, funding, conflict-of-interest and AI-use declarations.
6. Review & Submit — Check your submission and confirm. You will receive a confirmation email with your submission code.

What happens next. The editorial office first checks scope, completeness, ethics documents and similarity. Manuscripts that pass are sent for double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers. The Editor or Editor-in-Chief then accepts the manuscript, asks for revision, or rejects it, with reasons. See Peer Review for the full process and timelines.

Fees & Submission Windows

Submission and processing fees apply. A submission fee of PKR 5,000 and a processing fee of PKR 15,000 are paid together, in one payment of PKR 20,000, by bank deposit when you submit. Nothing further is payable after acceptance, and payment does not guarantee acceptance. The processing fee is refunded in full if the article is rejected at desk screening, before peer review; the submission fee is not refundable. The journal does not currently offer fee waivers. The bank account, the refund rules and the waiver policy are set out on the Fee Details page. Readers pay nothing to read or download articles.

Rolling submissions, no fixed deadlines. JPSIM accepts submissions throughout the year. Accepted articles are published in four issues a year (see Publication Frequency & Delays).
