Relationship between Ischemic Stroke and Raised Gamma Glutamyl Transferase
Abstract
To demonstrate the relation between stroke due to vascular insufficiency and elevated serum Gammaglutamyl transferase. Methods
In this research 390 individuals were studied, 195 cases were patients who had first-ever event of acute ischemic stroke within a day. Remaining 195 were controls who were healthy individuals who accompanied the patients (within ± 5 years and of same sex). Frequency of raised GGTwas compared between both groups. Results
Out of this sample of 390 patients 88 (22.6%) had elevated GGT. 26.7% of patients (cases) and 18.5% subjects (controls) had raised GGT (p value greater than 0.05). Odds ratio was 1.44 ((at 95% CI, 0.992 to 2.103). Sex, age, smoking, BMI did not change outcome. Conclusion
Hence we conclude that ischemic stroke and increased GGThas no association with each other. Keywords:
